Emergency vs. Scheduled Tree Removal Explained

A tree on your roof and a dead tree out back are two very different jobs. Here is how to tell whether you need emergency response or a scheduled removal.
"Do I need to call right now, or can this wait until next week?" It is one of the most common questions homeowners ask us, and the answer has real consequences for your safety and your wallet. Emergency tree removal and scheduled tree removal are two different services with different urgency, pricing, and planning. Knowing which one you actually need helps you make the right call, literally.
What Counts as an Emergency
An emergency is any tree situation that poses an immediate threat to people or property and cannot safely wait. Call for emergency tree removal right away if:
A tree or large limb has fallen on your house, garage, car, or another structure.
A tree is touching or has brought down power lines (also call 911 and your utility).
A tree is actively leaning or shifting after a storm, with soil heaving at the base.
A large limb is hung up in the canopy over a walkway, driveway, or play area.
A tree is blocking your only access in or out of the property.
In these cases the danger is live. Water is pouring into an open roof, a limb could drop at any moment, or an energized line is on the ground. Emergency crews respond 24/7 because every hour of delay can mean more damage or a serious injury.
What Can Be Scheduled
Many hazardous trees are dangerous but stable, and those are best handled as a planned job. Scheduled removal is appropriate when:
A tree is dead or declining but not in imminent danger of falling.
A tree leans toward the house but shows no sudden change or root movement.
You want a tree removed for construction, landscaping, or peace of mind.
There is visible decay or storm damage that needs attention but is not an active threat.
These situations still deserve professional attention, they just do not require a middle-of-the-night response. A planned dangerous tree removal lets a crew assess the site in daylight, bring the right equipment, and work methodically.
